Compassion

We can train artists, teach children, and empower women, but sometimes what is most needed is simply a hot meal, warm blanket, a trip to the clinic, or a bag of maize for a hungry family. When and where it is most needed, compassionate action has been part of our mandate from the very start of Ancient Path in 1998.

Life is unpredictable in Malawi. Drought, floods, and cyclones cause crop failures, food shortages, and seasons of extreme hunger, so there are times when we provide emergency relief. Because the vulnerable children and adults we serve are at high risk for malnutrition and disease, we supplement their diet through the following programs:

Agonjetsi - Over two hundred children visit Ancient Path twice weekly for academic tutoring, spiritual care, and a good meal. Every Saturday, team members prepare a hot, nutritious meal for more than 250 children and adults, all from scratch and cooked over firewood, regardless of the weather.

Kaliyeka Arts Program - We provide food for the youth who attend our arts training program three times weekly.

Dzaleka Arts Program -    We provide meals for the children who attend our tutoring and nutritional support program twice weekly at Dzaleka Refugee Camp

Emergency Relief - When extreme weather causes crops to fail and maize prices to skyrocket, we have helped struggling households survive periods of hunger by distributing 50 kg bags of maize.
